Joey Carroll Named Coach of the Week by New England Patriots

The New England Patriots have chosen Watertown High School football coach Joey Carroll as the recipient of their High School Coach of the Week award, recognizing Watertown’s 7-0 start to the 2026 season.
The Patriots honored coach Carroll, who is in his third year at the helm of the Raiders football program, in a ceremony Tuesday afternoon at Watertown High School. Carroll was joined by his players, the WHS band, and Watertown High School cheerleaders for the celebration.
“I believe this award is a reflection on the consistent mindset and dedication that this program has had these last three seasons,” said Carroll. “As much as I am appreciative of the award, this is a team award and I’m very happy our players and coaching staff can get the recognition as well.”
Patriots great and Pro Football Hall of Famer Andre Tippett led the ceremony, recognizing Carroll and his team for their accomplishments this season. Tippett spent an hour with Carroll and his players, discussing football, teamwork, and life lessons. He implored players to dedicate themselves to the tenets of leadership, hard work, and preparation, noting that the same principles are preached in the National Football League. “The football field is the greatest classroom for learning life lessons,” Tippett said, while reflecting on his high school football experience and the impact his high school coaches had on his life.
Under Carroll, Watertown is experiencing its best season in more than a decade. The 7-0 Raiders are pursuing their first Middlesex League championship since 2014.
"What Coach Joey Carroll has accomplished at Watertown is a great reminder that success isn't defined by where you start, but by how you respond," Tippett explained. "To go from a 3–6 season to a perfect 7–0 start speaks volumes about the belief, commitment and character he's helped build within this program. He's teaching these young men that hard work, perseverance and trusting one another can change the direction of a team. That's what high school football is all about, and we're proud to recognize Coach Carroll as our New England Patriots High School Coach of the Week."
As part of the award, the New England Patriots will donate $1,000 to Watertown football. Coach Carroll and the Raiders will be featured on this Friday’s episode of Patriots All Access, which airs on WBZ Channel 4 in Boston at 7 p.m. and on Patriots.comon the Patriots website
“We are so proud of what Coach Carroll has accomplished in his last three years on the job, and we thank the New England Patriots and Andre Tippett for recognizing our football program,” said Ryan Murphy, Athletic Director for Watertown Public Schools. “We are grateful to the entire Patriots organization for supporting Watertown Public Schools athletics with their generous donation.”
