Watertown High School field hockey coach Eileen Donahue added another accomplishment to her remarkable career this week, earning her 800th victory with a 4-0 victory over Stoneham.

Donahue, who is in her 41st season as Raiders head coach, is just the fifth coach in U.S. history to eclipse the 800-win mark. Her .930 winning percentage appears to be the highest in U.S. history, according to records kept by National Federation of State High School Associations.

Donahue has molded the Watertown Raiders field hockey program into one of the most decorated high school athletics programs in the United States. Her 22 state championships are the most in Massachusetts field hockey history. Under Donahue’s leadership, the Raiders have set numerous national records, including consecutive wins (124), consecutive games unbeaten (184), and consecutive shutouts (41).

“I’m happy for all the present and former coaches, families, administrators and community for contributing to this achievement,” said Donahue. “Every team is different with lots of challenges to conquer while focusing on one game at a time.”

Donahue was elected to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2019. In recent years, she has been named the field hockey Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Associations and field hockey Coach of the Year by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association. She served as the longtime physical education teacher at Watertown’s Lowell Elementary School before retiring in 2025.

“No one deserves this more than Eileen,” said Ryan Murphy, Watertown Athletic Director. “Her success is unprecedented and continues to amaze me every day. Fortunately, we have her here in Watertown working with our student-athletes.”
