We come together as a community to acknowledge and discuss the place we find ourselves in 2021, and how we can nurture and grow ourselves - along with our students - in an explicit way, as an antiracist school community.

Listening * Learning * Growing * Acting

This section of our website highlights earlier, ongoing, and upcoming work across the Watertown Public Schools in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEI & B). These are central tenets in the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support of our students. All of our work supports our WPS District Strategic Initiative --- To engage all WPS faculty and staff in embracing anti-bias and inclusive practices that promote equity and ensure all students feel valued and supported in their learning.

The Watertown School Committee and Superintendent Dr. Dede Galdston are committed to lead the Watertown Public Schools – in partnership with families, staff, and the community – in becoming an antiracist school district. In June 2020, the Watertown School Committee unanimously passed a Resolution affirming its commitment to antiracism, in solidarity with school districts across the Commonwealth.

During the 2020 - 2021 school year, we are steadfast in working together to build an antiracist school district. As we plan our path forward, a strategic first step includes partnering with Cultural Diversity Coach, Dr. Kalise Wornum beginning in the Winter of 2021 and continuing throughout the 2021-22SY. Our developing plan is multi-faceted with multiple stakeholders involved in the work. To bolster our skills and commitment at the leadership level, all administrators are participating in a 10-hour foundational course throughout the Spring of 2021 entitled, Becoming a Culturally Proficient Leader facilitated by Dr. Wornum.
