Raider LogoWatertown Fall Teams Gear Up For Playoff Action

Four Watertown High School athletics teams are gearing up for playoff action this weekend.

The Watertown field hockey team will begin their quest for another state title after earning the top seed in the MIAA Division 3 playoff bracket. The Raiders (17-0) were the only team in Division 3 with a perfect record. Second-seeded Sandwich finished 16-0-1 on the year.

The Raiders have conceded just one goal this year, in a 2-1 victory over Division 1 power Andover in September.

Watertown will host the first game of the playoffs on Saturday, November 5 at 2 p.m. at Victory Field. The Raiders are awaiting their opponent, the winner of Thursday’s play-in game between Hudson and Norwell.

The Raiders have won 19 state championships in field hockey, all under head coach Eileen Donahue. The Raiders are the defending champions after beating Sandwich to claim last year's state title

The Boston Globe has picked the Raiders as the favorites to win the state championship again this season.

Meanwhile, Watertown football will face off against Dover-Sherborn in the first round of the MIAA Division 5 playoffs.

The Raiders are the ninth seed in the tournament after posting a 5-3 record on the season. Dover-Sherborn (8-0) is ranked eighth. This marks a rematch of last year’s playoff game between Watertown and Dover-Sherborn, with Dover-Sherborn winning 21-7.

The game will be played at Dover-Sherborn High School on Friday, November 4 at 6:30.

The round of 16 matchup won’t be the only big game upcoming for the Raiders. Watertown will play Belmont in their annual Thanksgiving matchup at Fenway Park on Wednesday, November 23 at 4 pm. More information is available here.

The Watertown Raiders boys and girls soccer teams both qualified for the MIAA Division 3 tournaments, and both teams will face Boston Latin Academy.

The boys (6-9-5) are the 17th seed in their bracket and will face a 13-4-1 Latin team in the round of 32. The 26th seeded girls (4-13-1) will meet Latin Academy (10-4-5) in the preliminary round.

The Watertown boys will play on Friday, November 4 at 3:30 p.m. at Carter Playground in Boston. The girls will host Latin at Victory Field at 4 p.m. on November 4.
