Compensation
Watertown Public Schools > Human Resources
The compensation of teachers and Instructional Assistants is based on collectively bargained scale found in the collective bargaining agreements negotiated with the Watertown Educators Association.
2009-2010 Teachers Salary Scale
One advances through the teachers’ salary scale through two routes: through years of teaching experience and through educational attainment.
With each successive year of teaching, one advances a step on the scale – currently this advance adjusts salary by approximately 5%. With additional education above a bachelor’s degree also comes additional salary: 15 credits over Bachelors (B+15), a Masters degree, 15 credits over a Masters (M+15), 30 credits over a Masters (M+30), or a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAGS)/Doctorate – currently these column adjustments increase salary by approximately 3%.
Advancing to B+15 requires work in a Masters’ program, and there are three “gateways” before advancing to steps 3-6-9: A teacher must have passed a 3-credit course in the 3 years previous (2-years in moving to step 3) before moving to those steps. Some credit to advance through the columns after a master’s degree may also be attained through completion of in-service credits
Last, there are no steps 11-14 represented on the scale. These steps are equivalent to Step 10.
NOTE: Completion of a degree and completion of a years teaching experience would therefore automatically increase your compensation by approximately 8% BEFORE any negotiated scale increase
