Photography Portfolio by Sarah Ambrogne
When doing photography I always aim to have the best quality print as possible. When making my print, the first thing
I look for is a decent negative, which would possess good contrast. I know a photo has good contrast if the blacks
are as dark as possible and the whites are pure. If I am having a problem with achieving a good contrast photo I
can use a dodging and burning technique which allows me to have one part of the print receive more or less time
then the other half. I also want to focus on the border of my print, maybe even crop my picture to make it more
interesting or actually give it a focal point. With cropping, I can take one negative and make many different
prints out of it that could almost look nothing alike. To make my print creative or unusual, I can use the
dodging and burning technique again and merge two negatives together to make a bazaar looking photo. There
are so many different, creative and unique things I can do with my negative and that is what I look forward
to doing in the darkroom.
A photographer that really inspires me is Richard Avedon. He is well known for his editorial and fashion photography. His famous works consist of The Beatles poster and covers of Rolling Stone magazine.

In the field of photography I have a goal to take and produce a picture and make it the best it can possibly be.
To take a picture I love capturing almost everything and make it look beautiful and unique. From old garages,
to flowers and trees, to doors and buildings wheather the subject is outright attractive or makes you think about
what it means, I love all subjects. Part of taking a picture also comes from camera settings, wheather it is digital,
color, or black and white photography, the camera settings really affect how negatives come out. My goal is to set the
camera on the best possible settings to produce the strongest negatives with great contrast. In the darkroom I
love to make pictures with sharp quality and make my blacks as dark as possible and the whites as light as possible.
I really love photography work and I hope to be able to continue my journey in this field.
