Franz Joseph Haydn: - Haydn was an Austrian composer whose first work is dated about 1761 which is just before the French and Indian War ended in America (1763). During his career, the English colonies in America became disatisfied with British control. Haydn composed during the time of the Stamp Act (1764), Boston Massacre (1773), and through the American Revolution. When he died, Thomas Jefferson had been inaugurated the third President of the United States. Click to hear the music of this time period.

British and American Historical Paintings: - In the seventeenth century, artists often painted historical scenes, or scenes from religion and mythology.
