The colony of New Netherland
New Sweden and New Netherland had
few colonists compared to the New
England colonies. The colonists were not very
happy with the Governor of the colony. His name was Peter Stuyvesant.
In 1664, the Duke of York sailed into
New Amsterdam Harbor.
Stuyvesant tried to get the citizens to
fight the English, but they refused. The
Dutch gave up the colony. The English took control of both New Sweden and New Netherland. These colonies grew into New York and New Jersey. |
