Table of Contents

The Table of Contents lists the ten web page headings or chapters which coincide with the periods of Early American History, beginning
with the Ancient Native Americans through 1797, the election of John Adams, the Second President of the United States. An additional web
page is devoted to Geography. Each web page or chapter is divided into individual topics, with a list of the topics in the format of a table of contents. Each individual topic is presented on one page and includes a list of vocabulary and geography terms specific to that topic, and a brief summary of the key concepts.

Web Page Design

Each web page (chapter) has four additional resource pages containing information specific to that chapter. The Student Tasks pages have links for opening and downloading student activities. Some of these activities are in the form of web quests. While others open Inspiration Software activities. The Web Sites pages include links to web sites that have been previously explored and selected by the teacher contributors for student use. We continue to search for new links that are visual and contain multimedia components. The State Standards page includes Student Outcomes, specific to the Chapter, and as listed in Watertown's Social Studies Curriculum Frameworks. The Resource pages include a link to an Interesting Facts page that has additional information related to the topic. In addition, this page also includes links that provide background information in period music and the visual arts.

Differentiated Instruction

The Student Tasks and Web Site pages are subdivided into four levels of difficulty. Each level is color coded to reduce student confusion. The color codes are consistent throughout the web site. Because of time constraints, less effort has been spent differentiating for Levels 3 and 4.

  • Level 1 - Gold - easiest
  • Level 2 - Blue - average
  • Level 3 - Green
  • Level 4 - Gray
